Client
- Homeowner in Kirk Ella, East Riding, seeking a professional-standard practice facility for a rear garden. The client required a high-performance surface that would allow for both putting practice and short-game chipping within a 40m² area.
Project brief
- Transform a section of the garden into a dedicated golf zone.
- The surface needed to offer a realistic ball roll and reception for approach shots, mimicking the feel of a championship course.
- The design included specific requirements for playability, including light contours to create testing breaks and multiple target holes.
Solution selected
- Primary Surface: Tour Putt Ultimate by Easigrass was chosen for the main green.
- Selected for its “hybrid” capabilities; with a 25mm pile height, it is uniquely designed to accept lofted iron shots and chipping, holding the ball like a natural green while still providing a consistent roll for putting.
- Features 100% nylon yarn for optimal ball speed and durability.
- Fringe: NylonPro range.
- Utilized to create a distinct, professional fringe border. Its 12mm bi-coloured, micro-curled yarn provides a contrasting aesthetic and a tour-grade finish to the installation.
- Design Features:
- Light contours were sculpted into the sub-base to simulate real-world green undulations.
- 5 professional cup positions with flags were installed to offer a variety of putting lines and practice angles.
- Total treated area: 40m².
Timeline
- Pre-start: Site survey to map out the contours and cup positions within the 40m² footprint.
- Day 1 — Groundwork:
- Excavation of the existing ground.
- Installation of a specialized aggregate sub-base, carefully compacted and sculpted to form the requested light contours and breaks.
- Day 2 — Fitting:
- Installation of the Tour Putt surface, ensuring a seamless fit over the undulating base.
- Precision cutting and fitting of the NylonPro fringe to frame the green.
- Installation of the 5 cups and flags.
- Day 3 — Finishing:
- Final grooming of the pile to ensure non-directional speed and true roll.
- Client walkthrough and testing of the green speeds.
Performance highlights
- True Roll & Reception: The Tour Putt system allows the client to practice the full range of short game shots—from chipping onto the green to sinking long-distance putts—without the bounce often associated with standard artificial grass.
- Year-Round Play: Unlike natural grass, which suffers in wet East Riding winters, this surface remains mud-free and consistent in all weathers.
- Low Maintenance: No mowing, watering, or hollow-tining required to keep the green at “tournament speed.”
Summary
- Project: 40m² bespoke putting green in Kirk Ella.
- Outcome: A stunning, low-maintenance private golf facility featuring Tour Putt technology and NylonPro detailing. The installation provides a challenging and realistic practice environment right on the client’s doorstep.
