A Pet-Friendly Garden Transformation in Barton-upon-Humber

Posted: May 7, 2026

Gardens in North Lincolnshire can be tricky to manage, especially with the area’s heavy clay soil. Lawns that look fine in dry weather can quickly turn into mud once the rain sets in — and if you’ve got a dog, it doesn’t take much for things to get messy.

We recently completed a project in Barton-upon-Humber for a homeowner dealing with exactly that. Their Golden Retriever had turned the garden into a well-used (and well-worn) patch of mud, and they wanted a cleaner, more usable space that would still look like a proper lawn.

The brief was simple: something that works all year round, withstands an active dog, and requires minimal maintenance.

What We Did

The project covered around 40 square metres in total, including the main rear garden and a narrow strip at the front of the property.

In the back garden, we removed the existing lawn and installed a proper sub-base to deal with drainage and keep everything level. Doing this is especially important in clay-heavy areas, where water tends to sit rather than drain away naturally.

Once the groundwork was in place, we installed our Easi-pet artificial grass — designed specifically for homes with pets — with a backing that allows water and waste to drain quickly.

At the front of the house, we replaced a tired strip of grass with the same turf. It’s a small detail, but it makes a noticeable difference to the property’s overall look and ties everything together nicely.

The Result

We completed the transformation in just two days, and the difference was immediate.

The garden is now clean, level, and usable in all weather, and the retriever isn’t tracking mud into the house any more. It still has the look of a natural lawn, but without the usual issues that come with maintaining one in this soil type.

And, just as importantly, it passed the “dog test” straight away — the Golden Retriever wasted no time making full use of the new space.

Why It Works

In this type of setting, the key lies in the preparation as much as in the product itself. Getting the base right ensures proper drainage and long-term durability, while the Easi-pet surface adds a practical, low-maintenance finish that holds up well to daily use.

For the homeowner, it means no mowing, no patch repairs, and no muddy paws — just a garden that works.
